At the international level, a standard defining a common acoustic classification system for dwellings is being developed, based on the results of the European COST Action TU0901 project. The proposal offers countries the opportunity to establish acoustic requirements for buildings using a harmonized set of descriptors. This harmonized set considers the possibility to use impact sound insulation descriptors including or not the term impact spectrum adaptation IQ. In addition, it also considers the possibility of using different frequency ranges for the impact spectrum adaptation term CI50 and CI100. To evaluate the potential effect of such changes, it is necessary to provide translation equations between the existing and proposed harmonized descriptors that can be obtained from the statistical analysis of a large set of experimental data. In addition, it is necessary to investigate whether the obtained translation equations are independent of the building type (heavy or light soils).
