Using a Planar Array of MEMS Microphones to Obtain Acoustic Images of a Fan Matrix

Este artículo propone el uso de un sistema de adquisición y procesamiento de señales basado en una matriz 8X8  plana de micrófonos MEMS (Sistemas Microelectromecánicos) para obtener imágenes acústicas de una matriz 3X3 de ventiladores. Se ha implementado una matriz de ventiladores de PC para realizar el estudio. Se han definido algunas pruebas para obtener imágenes acústicas de los ventiladores individuales y de toda la matriz y se han llevado a cabo dentro de una cámara anecoica. Se han analizado las señales no estacionarias recibidas por cada micrófono MEMS y sus espectros correspondientes, así como también las imágenes acústicas correspondientes. El análisis de los espectros de las señales acústicas revela la frecuencia de resonancia de los ventiladores individuales. Los resultados obtenidos revelan la viabilidad del sistema propuesto para obtener imágenes acústicas de una matriz de ventilador y de sus ventiladores individuales, en este último caso, para estimar la posición real del ventilador dentro de la matriz.

A 3X3 matrix of PC fans has been implemented to perform the study. Some tests to obtain the acoustic images of the individual fans and of the whole matrix have been defined and have been carried out inside an anechoic chamber. The nonstationary signals received by each MEMS microphone and their corresponding spectra have been analyzed, as well as the corresponding acoustic images. The analysis of the acoustic signals spectra reveals the resonance frequency of the individual fans. The obtained results reveal the feasibility of the proposed system to obtained acoustic images of a fan matrix and of its individual fans, in this last case, in order to estimate the real position of the fan inside the matrix.
